Ballot info

The Nominating Committee of the Eliot Board is pleased to announce the following slate of candidates to be voted on this summer. Our Eliot bylaws require that the slate is completed by May 1st of each year. It is our practice to announce it to campers through the spring newsletter. Voting takes place at summer camps and ballots will be emailed to attendees of Winter Eliot 2019-2020 who are not registered for a camp this summer. None of the candidates are running against each other. In summer, you will be voting by acclamation on the slate as a whole.

Our candidate for the Nominating Committee takes office in October 2020 and candidates for the Board take office in January 2021. Deep appreciation goes to the Nominating Committee for their work and also to the candidates for offering to step up to these three-year commitments.

Eliot Board Nominations

Crider Kay photo.jpeg

Kay Crider for President-Elect

Kay and her family have been attending Eliot since 2004 for July and Winter camps. Her adult children still love to come to Eliot when they can. In her work life, she started out as a lawyer in private practice in 1989, and after many years decided to transition to a hybrid career of fundraising for non-profits and teaching. The combo of these two areas feeds both her spirit and her mind and she works on causes and topics for which she is passionate. The power, love and multi-generational wisdom that is the Eliot community is very important to Kay. She previously served on the Eliot Board and several Eliot Committees and she hopes to support the Eliot mission in the near and long term with her board service.

Seth Moran for Treasurer

Seth, who uses he/his pronouns, first attended July Eliot with his family back in 2008. They have yet to miss a July camp and recently also started attending Creative Arts. Seth has served as Music Coordinator and A/V coordinator for both camps, and, with his wife Elisa, was co-Dean for 2015 July Eliot. He is a member of the UU Church of Vancouver, Washington, where he has served as featured musician, song leader, and Worship Associate. Outside of camp he works as a volcano seismologist and, since 2015, as supervisor, project manager and office manager for a staff of 70 people. Seth is honored to be nominated to serve on the Eliot Board and is looking forward to giving back to the Eliot community that has given him and his family so much over the last 13 years.

Oakley Samaya photo - small.jpg

Samaya Oakley for Board Member

Samaya lives, breaths, and celebrates life on the unceded, ancestral and traditional lands of the Semiahmoo People. She has regularly attended Eliot camps for close to twenty years and is delighted and honoured to serve another term on the Eliot Board. Samaya has attended and served August, Winter, and Eliot at Naramata and has served each of the camps in a variety of camp jobs. The Eliot community has become her extended family – small groups, morning program, eating meals together, and watching people grow from child to adult – she loves it all. She currently serves as the minister for the South Fraser Unitarians in Surrey, BC.

Ramsdell Ward photo - small.jpg

Ward Ramsdell for Board Member

Ward Ramsdell has attended July Eliot for the last 15 years with his family and is honored to have been asked to serve the community as a board member. At the July camp he has acted as co-dean and worship coordinator; and on numerous occasions as young adult coordinator, lead youth advisor, and youth staff. Ward hails from Hillsboro, Oregon, where he works as an electrical engineer. He has served on several civic committees there, as well as on the board of directors of Hillsboro Artists’ Regional Theatre and the steering committee for the Hillsboro Arts and Cultural Council. In his free time, he enjoys theatrical lighting design and woodworking. Ward attends camp with his partner Angie, and eleven-year-old son Anson.

Killorin May photo - small.jpg

May Killorin

May (she, her, hers) has been coming to July Eliot every year of her life; this coming Eliot July 2019 will be her 23rd year at camp. As soon as May bridged out of the youth program at July Eliot, she became a part of the larger community through staff roles. She first served on children's staff twice and then became the first youth/young adult chaplain at July Eliot. She has been on the worship team the past couple of years. Eliot is what initially helped inspire May to become more involved in more UU things outside of camp.

When she was a youth at her home congregation at University Unitarian Church in Seattle, Washington, May became very involved in planning youth retreats in various staff positions. May graduated from Summer Seminary in 2016 and bridged into young adulthood that same year. Since then she joined the Pacific Western Region (PWR) Emerging Adult Taskforce to help integrate Emerging Adults (ages 18-24) into larger UU communities. Although she is no longer a youth, she has continued to serve as a staff member for various youth events including Goldmine Leadership School and the PWR Youth Ministry Revival.

May is extremely thankful she has had the opportunity to continue becoming a part of the Eliot community that has raised her. She plans to continue coming to camp with more and more involvement in the community for years to come.
