An update from your Program Committee

Your Program Committee is charged with the task of bringing speakers to our July, August, and Winter camps. As you can imagine, we choose our speakers carefully and with great thought. We gather names from our own contacts in the community, both within and outside of Unitarian Universalism. We also gather names from people that you suggest through your camp evaluations—and for that we thank you. To ensure that our camps have a good balance of themes, we rotate through a grid of topics. Currently our topics include UU History/Theology/Spirituality, Social Justice, Music/Arts/Storytelling, Personal Development, and Nature.

Once a topic has been selected for a camp, we then narrow down our list of potential presenters and begin to do some investigative work. This includes finding videos of their presentation, listening to the impact of their speaking engagements on those who have heard them speak, and looking through bios. Then we move onto conducting interviews with our speakers to see if they are a good fit for our camps.

All of this is done with care, love, and attention to the overall camp experience.

If you have an idea for a speaker, or want to pass on your gratitude for the work of the program committee, please reach out to Debbie Gorenstein, Cecilia Hayes, Camille Killorin, Angie Noble, Sacha Wassick, or me, Samaya Oakley.
