July 2019 Camp Highlights

Waterfront.jpg

In addition to the usual wonderfulness of reconnecting with Eliot friends new and old, singing and dancing, and otherwise enjoying the magic of beloved community that happens at camp, here are three highlights from the week:

  1. Our amazing, adaptive staff, who pulled together three days’ worth of quality morning programming when our speaker, the Rev. Terry Hershey, had to leave camp early due to a family emergency. And, our amazing, adaptive campers who made it easy by embracing the change!

  2. The commitment of campers to deepening our understanding of equity and inclusion and how it relates to Eliot. Special thanks are due to Basilia Brownell and Michael Osuna, who continued the conversation I started as Board Rep by hosting two more discussion groups during the week, centered around the Harvard Implicit Bias test. If you have not already had a chance to take this test, I encourage you to give it a try.

  3. Monochromatic tie dye, an innovation that both greatly reduced the time and water needed for this favorite camp tradition and yet still produced beautiful, wearable art!
